Had a difficult time finding these employees on the main site ... either the list was moved OR I was looking in the wrong place. How many does our small district need?? Guess the school system REQUIRES eight (8)AND one (1) administrative assistant at central office to help with all the work.... (this reminds me of the joke passing through the country about "how many people do you need to change a light bulb").

This district has more assistants than a state agency head and the count continues to grow. To allow this to happen is shameful! Who is to blame - the public who supports these padded budgets, the administrators who apparently believe they need secretarial help, or the BOE who continue to say YES to all the requests for new job positions. Wonder what these salaries cost us in the projected budget. I would hate to have anyone lose their job in this economy but if they continue to mention "cutting educators" .. I would suggest the board cut "support staff" who are not in the class rooms with our children. Here is the list:

Last Edit: 2 years, 2 months ago by Mombert. Reason: Added the Administrative Assistant which is probably a better paid secretarial position

Yesterday we located the secretarial positions plus one "administrative assistant for a grand total of NINE (9) secretaries. Today we located NINE (9) custodial positions. So far, 18 NON-TEACHING POSITIONS .... interesting the Administrators want to cut teachers first (... and this is NOT a scare tactic)? Really!!

CORRECTION: Found another custodian. Apparently the search engine did not pull the name in the first search (read page 1 of this thread). GRAND TOTAL, SO FAR OF NINETEEN (19) NON-TEACHING POSITIONS!:

I don't know about custodial staff, but when you walk into one of the schools you are usually greeted by at least three people in the front office. Certainly does seem to be a plethora of secretarial help in this town. If you followed the recent discussions re the non-certified staff contract, however, you realize that the non-cert. staff makes only a fraction of what the teachers make. You'd have to eliminate two custodians, for example, to equal the salary of one of the senior teachers. But I guess that doesn't make a difference, because the lowest-paid teachers are the ones who go if there are layoffs.

While we are on the subject of the overabundance of support staff at our schools, I wanted to bring up something that has been bothering me for the past two years. The secretary in the front office of Hebron Elementary--I don't know her name, where she's from, or anything about her other than the way that she appears to treat parents and children. Blonde hair, the one who is always at the front desk. And I swear, if she ever cracked a smile when speaking to a kid or a parent I'd be shocked. Since the parents are paying her salary, shouldn't she be required to treat them in a friendly, helpful manner?
