Have to agree with NP
It will pass like bad Gas.

A reduction of $500,000 in Rev due to the inability of some folks to pay taxes is nothing to sneeze at. Just goes to show how bad things are.
A person would have to be totaly with out a heart to vote for any increase in property taxes.

If this town approves a Tax increase then it only proves how heartless and selfish the people of this community realy are.

Did our "wonderful" town manager offer to return his raise to the town?

Lots of ways for them to control spending -- sure all of you can think of more:
    1. place a freeze on NEW hires - even a 2nd state trooper - we've never seen a state trooper in town except for a rare sighting at lunchtime or one individual driving through town on the way to their barracks; 2. reduce all current salaries 3-5% -- Ask Mr. Clark to return his raise (a mistake was made ... his performance should have been ABOVE satisfactory) ; 3. eliminate ALL programs in the recreation department not operating in the black; 4. MONITOR/LIMIT the use of town vehicles; 5. reorganizing support staff in each of the towns departments (do we really need 2 workers in the towns tax collectors office?? ... one person helped me at the counter, the other sat at her desk eating breakfast -- when I went in to pay my tax bill in January); 6. Trim office expenses: electronic documents, emails etc. with safe guards in place for storage 7. Reduce paid staff at the senior center (some towns have even ELIMINATED the senior center director) WE have a director, an outreach person and a program coordinator. How many clients use this building?? I believe ONE PERSON can wear the 3 different hats! Even with three paid staff, a vlounteer usually answers phones; 8. Placing everything - not related to emergency repairs - on hold UNTIL this economy improves (nice stuff like brick sidewalks, open spaces, more playing fields etc., etc.
