The request for more money from Ms. Cruz and the HBOE is upsetting news but, why should it come as a surprise to anyone visiting this site or living in the Town of Hebron?
No surprise to anyone paying attention.
Since the letter I recently posted was removed from this site, I’m suggesting that Hebron Dollars and Sense and it’s administrator are not impartial or unbiased, as advertised, and most likely controlled by the HBOE or friends of Ms. Cruz herself.
I haven't seen the letter you're referring to, but it seems clear to me that HD&S has for the most part not been very friendly toward Supt. Cruz nor to the HBOE. IMHO, I'd suggest fear of being publicly identified has more to do with pulling the content from the site. A fairly small number of folks have made FOIA requests.
Nonetheless, because I think at least a few of you are actually interested in my postings, I’m going to give you a little update regarding the continued fiscal irresponsible, as well as foolish, behavior being displayed by Superintendent Cruz and our HBOE.
The continued, exorbitant and wasteful legal expenses accrued by Ms. Eleanor Cruz, which I contribute to her ugly personal agenda, as well as overall incompetence, should be reason enough for Hebron Citizens to at least ask questions regarding any budget requests she cares to present for next year.
After all, the latest legal bill from the Law Firm of Shipman and Goodwin, dated November, 15, 2009 was for $8,586.00. (At least $6,562.00 pertains to an on going wasteful Labor Board Case)
Add that figure to the year’s previous total of $91,534.00 and the new, year to date total, NOT INCLUDING December’s invoice, is a whopping $100,120.00.
Can you believe it! Six figures and in a non contract year! And only Two Schools!
Go ahead and add that figure to her salary, in addition to her generous benefits (continued Travel Allowance, huge Annuity and more) and then you will see what it’s really costing us to employ her.
The above listed figures are indisputable because they come directly from the itemized invoices Shipman and Goodwin has been paid for by the Hebron Public Schools.
Again, this is a non contract year and the last school budget allotted only $27,000.00 for Legal Bills.
Again, WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM to pay these bills?
I thank you for providing the information. The last I saw on this from board meeting minutes indicated numerous "executive sessions". Is there any hope that this is at least the end of the litigation issue?
On another note and since a few of you misinformed people, most likely friends of the Superintendent or Cruz herself, have unfairly criticized Mrs. Joanne Collins, the previous Principal at Hebron Elementary, recent information coming out of the Superintendent’s office only proves that we are stuck with a Superintendent and BOE that is totally clueless.
The CMT scores for Hebron Elementary School have never been better and Mrs. Collins, as well as the staff, she groomed, motivated and effectively managed, should be commended. Additionally, Ms. Cruz was just informed that the Hebron Elementary School has been selected for consideration as a Blue Ribbon School.
Sadly, the above is no laughing matter (Our children’s education and the spending of our hard earned tax dollars). Hebron Taxpayers deserve better and, despite this Superintendent, our elected officials (HBOE) have a duty to see we get it.
I don't think the criticism of Mrs. Collins has been all that unfair - there were a significant number of parents who were very unhappy with her performance - not just measuring what the results were, but how they were achieved. CMT scores should not be the sole measurement on how the students are learning.
At the same time, Collins does deserve some credit for training several of the new teachers - Hebron pays less than other districts, and consequently has to hire several new teachers each year.
Overall, though, I agree with you that Hebron Taxpayers deserve better.
