The Hebron BOE "Chair" wrote on page 9 of the April 24, 2009 NEWS BULLETIN One reader (on page 4 of the same issue under VOTE NO) expressed the problem correctly .. the budget cuts are on the student side -- not the teacher-administrator side of the budget. Did anyone (??) support cutting staff. ONLY the kids' resources have been cut: Does the "chair" of the BOE think we are complete idiots?!?! Let's show her we (the voters) can be informed voters and WILL NOT support the budget. Perhaps, the "2008 strategic plan" they adopted needs to be revisited.

Read We Pay the Bill in the same issue on page 8. If you agree that the BOE budget should be on the ballot -- go to the May 6 (7 pm meeting in the Town Hall) and voice your opinion. For those of you who do not attend meetings - phone or write to the Charter Revision Committee. For me, the decision is easy ... if the superintendent doesn't support the "bifurcation", I do!!

Your comments will be read into the record at the May 6, 2009 (7 pm meeting). They will be discussing Bifurcation (which simply means that the town's budget and the BOE budget will be listed separately on the ballot).

If I understand this correctly (please comment and correct me if I am wrong!), we would be able to vote on each budget separately. That is -- support the town budget (where employees submitted a 'bare-bones' budget and gave up salary increases) and vote DOWN the school budget (where salaries account for the BULK of the BOE budget).

What you seem to be missing is that it is parents who come out to get the budgets passed every year. Why would you think this would not continue?

I don't care either way, as long as we don't incur additional expenses with the bifurcation process. If this will cost us any more - by higher election fees to the vote counting machines, whatever, then I would be opposed. It wouldn't be worth the money.

Get more open, honest information available and allow discussion, then the community will support what is fair and vote down what is not.
