Read the article in the Norwich Bulletin. I paid for the list available at town hall. Carla stated the list was complete as of yesterday (Aug 11, 2011). All members of the BOF did not sign (that is, everyone except Ms. Ferree). This is frightening when you think that it is the BOF responsible for setting the rate for our taxes and overseer of our budget. The article stated our BOF chair (Hazel, a candidate planning to run again for that board) said there are adequate provisions under our charter. According to the article, Parks and Rec chair thinks it has a "chilling effect" on volunteers -- what does that mean? Are they purchasing replacement plants and trees from the nurseries owned by volunteers? A conservation commission member stated "morality cannot be legislated". No kidding! But it certainly makes the public feel better knowing that no one had a problem signing the code.

The "volunteers" of the ethics study group gave hours of their time to present a final product to the BOS. Most tax payers assumed all board and commission members signed the code. Could it be that most members of the BOF and other commissions refuse to sign because they "feel" they are more trustworthy than the rest of us?

I picked up the public list at the town office at a cost of $1.50 for the three pages. Never thought to ask for it in electronic format. It is an interesting read. Two individuals from the bifurcation study group did not sign (one serves on other committees in town) and the economic development committee leader did not sign. What I consider the most disappointing is the chair of the BOF.

Please remember this at election time. Obviously, it is time for a change. Those who refused to sign do NOT deserve "our trust' and support. This is also a slap in the face to the volunteers who spent hours researching and writing the town's ethic's code. The reasons they used in the article are ridiculous!! Vote all the incumbents out at the next election. Let's clean house!

Re:Why NOT sign the ETHICS CODE? 9 months, 1 week ago #2443

donna just release the names you don't even hide who you are. Money and secret. YOU want to help then f'n help but don't hold out just so you can have control. It's been you're MO forever. I'll pay someone to go in and get the names pass it to someone else to pass to someone else to pass to someone else just so you won't know who is posting what.
