In a nutshell, Connecticut Valley Hospital has been forcing their staff to work overtime hours, for which they get paid double time. This has resulted in many of their employees making two to three times their base salaries. Ie supervising nurses making in excess of $200K per year, LPN's making over $100k. Nurses working at a rate of $80 an hour for a shift that could be covered at $24. The kicker is, it's not a good scenario for anyone involved. Dangerous for patients, hard on the employees, bad for the taxpayers because, in the long run, we end up footing the bill. We need to send the message that we will no longer tolerate this kind of crap. At how many other state agencies does this type of thing occur? If we eliminated this kind of thing, would we even need the tax increases that Malloy is proposing to make up for the deficit?

Please, if you're so inclined and you have a moment, send a link of this article to Gov. Malloy and/or our state legislators. Just imagine if this example is typical of what is going on at our state agencies/institutions. Imagine how much money the state would save if it were stopped. If the governor and our legislators are confronted by this kind of thing by enough people, maybe it will finally enter into their brains that they should be ferreting out this kind of mindless waste instead of dipping their hands further into the pockets of the struggling middle class.

Yep, another example. Although I think the Republicans hurt their position by overstating the amount of waste. They kind of just took the entire salaries of all 911 employees and made it sound as though that number represented the waste.
