Only a few hours left until we vote … most of you, I am sure, have made your decision. I hope this year you have really evaluated your decisions and weighed your choices. I am not a member of either political party in town. Yet, I find myself supporting all of the Republican candidates this year. I can explain that better by saying I am convinced I have chosen the BEST candidate seeking office.

Most of us vote for the candidate(s) that best supports our views and opinions. This year I am voting to reclaim our government on both the state and federal level. I want to herd in the wild spending and curtail the growing deficit. I want people representing me to be informed and opened to new idea. I want them to make decisions and vote for bills that are supported by their constituents - and most importantly, I want them to read an ENTIRE bill before voting.

Hope you all feel the way I do. My votes will go to these candidates for State offices:
Tom Foley for Governor
Mark Boughton (Lt Governor)
Martha Dean for (Attorney Gen'l)
Sean Sullivan for (State Senator)
Pam Sawyer (State Representative)

I will also vote for the following two individuals to represent my family in D.C.
Linda McMahon (US Senate)
Janet Peckinpaugh (US Representative)

All of us are getting tired of the flow of ads through the mail and TV. Visit the websites of the candidates and inform yourselves about their positions. Click on their name in the list above. I am sure you will be as convinced as I am that the candidates I listed above are worthy of your vote.

IF you are satisfied with the state of affairs in our state/federal government do nothing and keep the current make up of our legislative bodies. If you are dissatisfied -- vote to make a difference, With our vote on Tuesday we can help to change both the make-up of our state legislature and Congress in DC. Let our state and the entire nation hear our voices. Cast a vote to let them know … WE are unhappy and want “REAL CHANGE”!”

Please add your comments to this posting...decision day is almost here.

Love your choices Marie! This year I will be voting a Republican ticket - in hopes we can move Ct and the USA back to the center. My left of center friends preach tolerance but seem to be having trouble living it. Tolerant adults can handle a difference in opinion - VOTE your conscience!!

No doubt - something has gone terribly wrong in the Hartford and Washington legislatures. It is no laughing matter. It has always been my feeling if one is uncomfortable with the current political and economic situation in the country, allow new candidates, new types of personalities, and fresh minds tackle the problems facing this Nation. I consider my vote this Tuesday a self prescribed method of term limits!

I won't be voting for the full republican ticket - there is no way my conscience would ever allow me to support several of those candidates.

Linda McMahon has attempted to buy this election, without ever stating where she stands on several key issues. She is far more right-wing than she is letting on - and I don't want her messing up the Senate for 6 years. I am, however, considering wearing my "UnderTaker - A Decade of Destruction" tee shirt to the polls...[troll on] Besides, if a handful of veterans got annoyed with Dick Blumenthal, it makes me want to support him all the more. [/troll off] We already have an embarrassment for a Senator, why make it two?

Martha Dean is flat out crazy, I am glad she has no shot.

Joe Courtney has done right by our district, and Janet Peckinpaugh is an ex-TV personality whose 15 minutes of fame ran out years ago. Joe voted against the bailout - for good reason - he is one of a few I will actually go vote for, and not against their opposition.

Edith Prague has also done a fine job for us, she has a good head on her shoulders, and she not only understands how to get things done, she looks out for the interests of seniors - she represents us well and I hope she stays as long as she likes.

I don't have a good feel for the Governor's race - I don't like either of them. But I like the idea of a Democratic controlled legislature with a republican governor - so there's a check and balance.

Pam Sawyer has held her office a long time, too, and IMHO she has done okay, I don't see a reason to boot her either.

Marie,

All over your choices!! Really time for Prague to go! She and her majority in Hartford have created nothing but a huge deficit for Ct. Sean Sullivan is a great choice to start turning the ship in Hartford. If we don't change our ways and do it now Ct will be the next California. Edith had her chance and did nothing but spend us into a huge hole!

Some individuals in our community have a problem with comprehension. They will comment forever without any substance. I initially replied to all the statements made by Auntie. For each of her remarks, I countered with a statement based on fact. I decided to erase those words when I located a link that explains WHY I will NOT support Democrats for office in this state this year. With the increasing deficit, with solutions offered ... they would NOT support ideas that could have helped our state's economy.

Read this link to information on Pam Sawyers page. Great ideas that would have offered a solution to our increasing deficit .. voted down by the DEMOCRATS. This is from the newspaper article posted on that link:
House Republicans also voted to reduce the state’s mounting deficit by $185 million.
Republican lawmakers also offered to cut their own pay by 5 percent, delay an $87- million union contract until a total budget is in place, and provide relief to towns and cities struggling to put their own budgets in place, but were rebuffed by Democrats.
The Republicans proposed:
* Cutting their own pay by 5 percent
* Delay an $87 million salary increase package for corrections officers until a budget is in place
* Restoring $54 million in cuts Democrats eliminated from Gov. Rell’s budget
* Delay or eliminate local mandates such as costly in-school suspension and treat juvenile offenders as adults which police departments support.

In these times, there should not be a "right or left side" or an "us or them mentality". All sides should work together for a solution ... this will work if we vote in the best and brightest of the candidates. This year, the best and brightest are on the Republican ticket!
