Just noticed the little blurb by the Friends of the Douglas Library in today's Rivereast

Kudos to them for publicizing the proposed cuts. I don't care much for the other budget cuts, but at a time when the library is needed more than ever, find a way to keep it open!

By Slick Jared proposing to cut that along with the police for the Maple Fest/fireworks, he showed why he was not really in touch with the pulse of Hebron.

I hope this notice motivates folks to attend the 3/24 BOS/BOF meeting, or to contact them to let them know they should KEEP THE LIBRARY OPEN!

These are very modest dollar amounts we are talking about. Not like the bloated administrator salaries, etc.

If we don't hire a replacement town manager for a month, the savings can restore both of these expenses.

I understand the pretense of asking all areas to keep the budget under control, but let's think before taking DRASTIC action like this.

Everyone wants to protect their OWN favorite budget item

For me, decreasing library hours by 5 hours/week is nothing. During the day it is practically empty. Maybe, only the hours of operation will have to change to make "everyone" happy. That is, keep it opened both Saturday and Sunday or open it later in the day and/or keep it open later at night.

I personally do NOT use our town library. I use the one in Columbia and Lebanon. It all started when I placed a book on the reserve list and NEVER, NEVER received a call when the book was checked in. My reservations was LOST. Yes, mistakes do happen but that was such a simple task -- I followed all the rules for the reserve list -- the procedure broke down on the library side.

As long as you have a town card, the system is set up for use of any library in CT with a current library card and a photo id (like a drivers license).

Problem is, the library already is closed on Sundays year round, and closed Saturdays all summer long.

The proposed cut Slick Jared suggested was to close entirely on Fridays as well.

Closing town hall on Fridays, as proposed, is a bonus to all the salaried folks over there, which is most of them - they are not suggesting anyone take a pay cut, just an hours cut. But since most of the library staff is hourly, the lower paid people are the ones who get hurt by this cut.

Auntie, I am aware of the library hours. NP understood what I was "trying" to say:
