Thought this was on the Forum already. It may not have been posted before - I certainly cannot find it on this Forum. After listening to the individuals connected to the Hebron schools (Administration, teachers, BOE) so many of the statements in this evaluation have been validated. Please connect to this link and re-read the comments. Some staff feel their input is not valued, some feel they are required to "teach to the test", have little contact and visibility from the Central Office Staff, decisions seem to be last minute with a sense of urgency, communication is a concern, etc. It is definitely worth a read.

There was discussion about this when it first came out.

For those that may not recall, this "Leadership Assessment Study" was a tool used by the Board of Ed to help address some of the perceived problems they had, and to develop solutions to them.

Some have gone so far as to call it a sham, just a pretense to build a case to fire the former principal Joanne Collins, or to encourage her to leave (which thankfully she did).

But overall, the approach of the study provided an opportunity to gain perspective both from parents and staff, which is something the BOE doesn't always seem to do very well.

If Supt. Cruz were to re-open her blog, it would be worthwhile to ask her what they have learned from the study, and beyond the obvious change in personnel, how are they doing things differently to address some of the concerns raised in the study.

The fact that Supt. Cruz even took the time to open her blog showed a big improvement over prior years, and is clear step in the right direction of transparency.

It has also given the voting public meaningful information about the cost overrun in the special education account - which many of us thought might have been legal expenses related to the labor dispute. Supt Cruz's blog also gave us the information on the town employee's "concessions" that really were a "we'll give them double next year", and she clarified the question as to how the stimulus money was reflected - doubtful we would have seen any of this without her blog.
