The public meeting held last week was different. At least they answered questions in a public forum. Again we ask: WHERE are the spreadsheets they should have constructed to demonstrate "cost savings" or shifts in funds from one category to another? Where is the list that demonstrates the "impact" of removing specific items from the budget. Why do they think that their verbal comments are enough to satisfy the public.... why should we be asked at a public meeting " ... don't you trust the superintendent". Our response should have been: "
We were under the impression that decisions should be made by a board vote!!"

We have seen this dysfunctional board at its best when no one will second a fellow member's motion, when there is no real discussion with disagreements voiced in public and when members treat each other and the public with rudeness!! It appears none take their "board" position seriously. What sources do they use to arrive at their "INFORMED" decision. Are they working on "gut" feelings and personal feelings? One newspaper account even quoted a board member as stating "this is too emotional for me". EMOTIONS, PERSONAL FEELINGS are not suppose to be part of their decisions -- FACTS ARE!!

Please vote YES - YES - YES!
Every "no" vote is an endorsement of this board's incompetence in setting up a budget. The last Board of Selectman meeting should provide an example of how a board works together. The town manager provided a typed list for potential cuts .. with the cost savings in a column ... and explained the impact on the town if the item was cut completely or reduced. It took the board no time to agree to specific cuts to lower their budget. Our BOE doesn't understand this TEAM CONCEPT and believe they can sway the public with rhetoric and no supporting data. WHERE IS THEIR PLAN?? All these referenda are costing the town money!!

The Chairmen of the BOS and BOF's editorial in the River East makes it clear they heard the majority of the voters' voices and reduced the BOE budget accordingly. Why would anyone on the Board think that the BOS/BOF would add more money (See Brian O'Reilly's RE Editorial) after making it clear in their RE Editorial and at BOF/BOS/BOE meetings that the budget must be REDUCED? Further, if all the previous "Yes voters" now "VNTL," based upon the outcome of the previous two referendums, they still wouldn't have enough votes. What am I missing?

Missing nothing ... but the voter turnout is so pathetic in Hebron. What IF everyone stayed home this time? Take nothing for granted. Realize too that there are some residents who routinely vote no -- just to vote no. I want the entire town to turn out. A majority is defined as half the votes +one. I want my vote to be that ONE!
