Yep, sounds like an agenda full of self-congratulation and rhetoric spouted in support of their usual initiatives. Is anyone planning to attend?

I plan on trying to attend - I was supposed to be coaching my son's baseball team, but I will see what I can do.

I am keenly interested in the discussion about the FOI requests.

Will try and give a brief wrap up and hit the high points of a 3 hour meeting. Only Mr Moorcroft absent tonight.

- 3 GHS students started off with counting to 20 in Chinese.
- 3 4th - 6th grade students from HE shared projects from the UCONN Invention Convention. This was the first year HE participated with a select number of children under the direction of Ms Maupin. Next year all students in 4-6 will be encouraged to participate in the competition at HE and earn a chance to go to uconn to represent school.
- 2 HE teachers (music and 5th grade) shared video and photos of trip to China. A high point for them was skyping with the students and staff from China. No indication of how the travel will be used with teachers and students.
- Ms Cruz will pursue more grant money to continue this program.

Mr Hanlin, HE principal, spoke regarding installation of 27 projectors over April Break. Including mobile projectors all classrooms at HE have capability. Total cost $38,000 from SS grant.

Special Ed Admin sending 2 teachers and 2 para professionals to inclusion training using an IDEA grant. They in turn will come back and do in house professional development.

Consent agenda discussed at length. what does or does not belong on a consent agenda.

According to HBOE attorney it is not necessary that the minutes accurately reflect what is stated in public comment. Only motions are required to be accurately reflected.

First Student Bus is having a significant issues with performance. Ms Cruz will be meeting with them to institute fines and enforce contract. Example - Spare bus is only available less than 20% of time because it is being used as sub bus. Challenge of "saving money" (19 buses aged 2000 - 2004) is headache of dealing with older less reliable buses.

AASA communication -impact of economic down turn being felt across state causing reductions. This year 2000 teacher reductions across state.

FOI requests will cost .50 cents per page and electronic requests will also cost.

Cruz submitting paperwork for schools and teachers to participate in a Race to the Top initiative (RTTT) that has potential to bring in $25,000/ year for 4 years. Hoping to get union to sign on.

Special Ed submitting paperwork for IDEA Grant for special ed needs. Requested same amount as last year. Should know by July if they will get it.

Memorandum of Understanding accepted by HBOE from the Administrators covered by Admin union. They were thanked by HBOE for giving back contracted salary increase. They also extended contract for one year.

Public comment - pls put taping of HBOE meetings on agenda to discuss.

No discussion of pending budget vote. All but one community members left after children presentation. One baseball coach attended for an hour.
