I have printouts of several of the posted HBOE budgets. I find this "interesting":
    Object code 1112 Teachers from budget FY2008-09 - C&E(1.0 FTE) 129,336 Obj code 1112 Teachers from approved budget FY2009-10 - C&E(1.0 FTE) 117,914 Obj code 1112 Teachers from proposed budget FY2010-11 - C&E(2.0 FTE) 123,135 (A1) Obj code 1112 Teachers from proposed budget FY2010-11 - C&E(1.0 FTE) 61,635 (A2) Obj code 1112 Teachers from proposed budget FY2010-11 - C&E(1.0 FTE) 61,635 (A3)
(A1) Initial proposed budget with 3.99% increase - earliest of this year. These numbers cannot be correct .. or are they seriously stating that 2 positions only cost less than $6K more?
(A2) Budget that went to referendum with 1.5% increase (BOF required 1.5% from all boards)
(A3) Latest Budget after 48.5K cut with 1.09% increase (after exit poll and vote)

My question: was there always 2.0 FTE for Challenge and Enrichment teacher(s) in the budget or was this just wishful thinking for 2010-2011? Bigger issue: Did anyone realize that there was an $88,416 Stimulus Offset used in the Object code 1112 (2010-2011) for Teachers. Are we already in the hole for 88K+ next year when we won't have the stimulus funds? What are the plans for this shortfall? Cuts need to be made now ... why not administrators? Cutting administrators will NOT short change our children!! This current board should not have rubber stamped the Administrators request to fill the curriculum specialist position. We would have save a 100K+ on that one position.

I think maybe the HBOE may have thought of ways to fix the shortfall for next year. This is something E. Cruz mentioned at the begining of he budget process that she was looking at what that would look like. All of the admin did make concessions for the upcomming budget. I know that we are facing hard times but I feel that what is expected from the HBOE and the admin and teachers is run more
bare bones than sould be acceptable. So I will vote yes. I am concerned about our children. I also want some though put in to what happens if we don't meet AYP or the need of our students. Parents do have the right to sue
or have the state force a school system to meet those need. Now where is that money going to come from.

Sorry for the confusion, but I thought C&E stood for Challenge and Enrichment, not a Curriculum position? Are these administrative positions, or teacher positions?

THANK you ... yes, my error I typed curriculum and enrichment. YOU ARE correct.

The curriculum director position is an administrative position. When that position was vacated through a resignation, without interviewing, the superintendent simply "moved" someone into the slot. Even if this was "allowed" -- there should have been an open recruitment and several individuals should have been interviewed. How do we know we have the best of the best selected when no one else was considered?

Again, thank you for pointing out my error. I fixed it through an edit.

Welcome aboard .. obviously, you missed the meetings where our superintendent waved off questions about future shortfalls and declining revenues. Her remarks were flippant and are definitely discussed somewhere on this board. I remember once when she stated we did not have to worry, it was all taken care of ... but offered no explanation of her comment. Another time or two she stated (again in public) we will just have to wait and see.

That to me was an indication that this group has "NO PLAN". Both comments above were inappropriate answers. The administration and the HBOE should be planning for these shortfalls now. They need to be proactive!
