Heard from a couple of people today that there is a concern that BOE will file a lawsuit against the Town of Hebron unless they get all the increased budget money they requested (it changed so many times; I think the final proposal to the BOF in a last minute move was 3.02%... copies of the documents were not made available to the public in attendance, only handed out to BOF members about 2 hours into the meeting, much to the surprise of everyone at the meeting -- board members and the public).

First: that is a rumor ONLY. The Hebron Town Charter clearly outlines the responsibilities of the Board of Finance in Section 802, paragraph E.

E. Duties of the Board of Finance
. During the month of March, the Board of Finance shall meet and prepare the revenue projections for the upcoming budget including the Capital Improvement Plan Budget. The Board of Finance may review budget requests with the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Education during the month of April. Subsequent to such review, the Board of Finance shall prepare a budget that incorporates a recommended expenditure level for the General Government and Board of Education budgets. The Board of Selectmen and Board of Education shall make specific changes in their respective itemized budgets as will bring them into conformity with the expenditure levels recommended by the Board of Finance. The Board of Finance shall hold a public hearing on their recommended budget on the third Tuesday in April. Within one week after the public hearing, the Board of Finance shall prepare a budget at the total expenditure levels recommended by it. [emphasis added]

So everyone please be advised: the Board of Finance makes the final decision on the spending increase they will allow for both the Town of Hebron and the Hebron Board of Education. OR... they can actually DECREASE spending levels from the previous year's budget... The Hebron Board of Finance has absolutely no say and no control on the RHAM budget, except in an advisory position.

wonder what would happen if the town didn't pay taxes in protest. Also if they pull that BS the legal fees should come out of their pockets.
