Did everyone see the recent exchange on the supt.'s blog. Excellent, excellent questions from K.M. What do you think about the supt.'s statement below? Is it likely that the state will make up the stabilization funding?

What Mr. Leichter was referring to in the discussion at that Board of Finance meeting you reference above, is the decision of the Town Boards to reduce the General Fund by $980,527. Please remember that RHAM is included in this amount of money. The Town Boards reduced the Hebron Public Schools' budget (2009-2010) by that amount knowing that we will be receiving the $980,527 directly from the state instead of the money going to the town as it has in the past. It is simply a paper transfer. There is absolutely no indication at this point that the state will not replace the 14% once the Federal Stabilization Funding expires.

My concern is that the state ran a (1) Billion dollar deficit last year and is predicting a 500M deficit for this year. Those deficits are with the state receiving sizable ammounts of stimulus money (see link to budget deficit) It seems to me that there is some risk in the state making that up when the stimulus goes away if they are running these big deficits with stimulus money.

Absolutely. So why is the supt. so confident that the state will make up that portion of the $$ that is not going to be coming from the feds? And let's say the state did make it up. Where is that money coming from? Sooner or later, excessive spending comes out of our pockets.
