While agree with most.

The only way to rid ourselves of these narrow minded dogooders is to not let them serve again.
Obviously just selve centered igotists that care nothing about the overall well being of this community.
Vote them out of office so the next bunch of morons can take over.

We have not heard the end of "All Day Kindergarten" (ADK)! I am sure if the town approves the municipal budget (of which the BOE budget is a simplistic LINE ITEM) -- next year or the following, another administrative position will be slipped into the budget. Something like "Director of the ADK program".

There will always be justification for more and more administrative positions because this lightens someone else's workload. They are building an "empire" based on our tax dollars -- all this money for less than 1200 children. The organizational chart for our local schools appears to be more complex than any state agency in CT! For years our elementary school did well without a "Curriculum Specialist". Now, we have this administrative position too. Correct me if I am wrong, isn't curriculum in the Superintendent's job description?

As To Where The "Bashing Of Slick Billy With Heels" Comment Went, But Here Goes

She Along With Doobie & The HBOE & Others, Are The Root Cause Of Such Grandious UNPROVEN Program Exspenditures (ADK For Starters) In This Economy, Along With A BLATENT DISREGARD Of The BOF & Electorate's Request For A ZERO % Budget Increase.

They Have been Feeding at The Public's Wallet Unchecked For Too Long Now & It Is High time to Cut Off That Feeding Frenzy that they Have gotten Far Too comfortable With

So, It Is Not "Bashing" In A Real Sense.

They Choose to Serve In A Public Domain & Are Fair Game For People To Express In Their Own Way( My Rhum Class Of 19??)Education & Creative writing Class Is Showing Ain't It As To How They Feel About Such Person's Action & Deeds

Just Read The Local Rag before Using It To Line My Cat's Litterbox With It & Caught The Article About The Next JUNKET To China By A Few Teachers From the El system

What Gives Here?

It Alludes To Be Largely supported By Grants, But Duz Not Say TOTALLY Supported By Grants, So where duz The difference Come From??

Whatever The "Grant Money" Amount I$, Don't You think It would Be Better Spent On The DIRECT EDUCATION Of Our Kids In$tead Of Sending Teachers On A "DOOBIOUS Junket" Of Questionable Value??

A "Rich & Terrific" Opportunity They Say Eh??

They Cry Poverty & Still Go Forward With "Questionable Value Programs" (China Junkets & ADK)For Starters

Their Credibility In Most financial & Personell Matters Is In Tatters, & They Want Us To Beleive ANYTHING They say?

I THINK NOT

I have questioned the expenses for the China exchange program in the past, as I don't want my taxes paying for a luxury like this.

Grants, by their nature, are provided with strings attached - you can't take the money for them and use it on something else. Think of it like college financial aid - if you are awarded a grant to go to UConn, you can't turn around and use it at Yale.

As for the proposed budget, I still have not decided which way I will vote. My husband will vote no as he feels we can't afford the expansion of ADK this year.

Supt. Cruz clearly feels that this program is worthwhile and continues to advocate it. I don't doubt that academically, students will benefit from more school hours. And I don't doubt that the vast majority of parents of incoming kindergartners want their kids to have all day kindergarten, especially if some students get it through lottery and others don't, they don't want their kids to be "disadvantaged" by having half day compared to others who get full day.

She noted the dramatically changing standards that have to be met in kindergarten, and no parent wants their kid to have to "catch up" in a later year.

Mrs. Cruz' response to my husband's question about how we have been able to do more with less is perhaps telling - they are sensitive about the budget implications, and they planned for textbooks over a few years. I wonder if we have fewer paraprofessionals than other schools because we have fewer special needs students - until now, that is...
