Did the property get listed on the national register of historic places?

It seems to me that if the town truly needs space for town departments, etc., then we will be spending it sooner or later.

Too many times in the past, Hebron has taken a pennywise/pound foolish approach to spending. Folks who think they are voting with their wallet fail to see the long-term benefit of acting now. One only has to think of the school building/demolition/portables, or the disbanding of the COC issues to realize the shortsighted decisions cost more in the long run. Protecting/modifying existing assets is usually much more efficient than acquiring new ones.

If 30, 20, or even 10 years ago, the town had funded open space purchases better, we would be a much different community now. But folks bitched about how high their taxes were already, and just plain weren't smart about it. We should probably blame it on their RHAM education, where most students are not taught to THINK.

The JI articles present some info, but only enough to make us want to ask more questions. If we put blinders on and simply say "no more money" will we be regretting this decision 5, 7, or 10 years from now? How much money are we talking about, for the various options being discussed? Are renovations more expensive than levelling and building on the site?

It very well may turn out that our best option is to dispose of the property, but I don't think we know enough to determine that just yet.

Since voter turnout is abysmally low, a small effort by those dedicated to preserving the property would likely be able to garner sufficient taxpayer support for reasonable renovations. If our current town manager was half as good as his predecessor, we'd probably know more about not just what our options would each cost, but we'd also have grant applications pending, etc. that would've had this project funded by the federal stimulus package.

I figure within the next 2-5 years there will be a new company 1 firehouse (for those of you new to town that's the firehouse in the center of Hebron) and a new "police barracks"....why you ask because we have a nice restored fire truck AND a nice brand new ladder truck for the multitude of 3+ story buildings in Hebron...lets not forget the chimney fires that I forget who brought up to justify the purchase of that albatross.... also I notice he hasn't been chirping since that truck has been finally restored...

what has been ruined since 2000 in Hebron?

1. Hebron....has way to many people in it...we need to get rid of 5-6K of them.

2. The center of town.... Have you guys noticed that since they took RHAM road away the traffic is now way out of hand?

3. The Fair (because of the idiot lions who thing they need to have the biggest fair in the state and nickel and dime all the local not profits so they can't even afford to participate)

I'm sure there is a more than I'm missing but thats my gripe for this decade....
