Did you know just HOW SIGNIFICANT elementary school population has declined since FY 2006-07? Here are the numbers:
Anticipated 2012-13 enrollment (current proposed budget) 958 students
FY 2011-12 enrollment 1049 students (current to date)
FY 2010-11 enrollment 1140 students
FY 2009-10 enrollment 1181 students
FY 2008-09 enrollment 1193 students
FY 2007-08 enrollment 1213 students
FY 2006-07 enrollment 1226 students
Net difference in enrollment from FY 2006-07 to present, including anticipated enrollment 2012-13 = 1226 - 958 = 268 students!!!!
And they want yet another budget increase? And they want to raise that All Day Kindergarten mantra again? ADK is NOT MANDATED in the State of Connecticut! Interestingly, yes, there is discussion about that by today's current Governor; there was also discussion back in 2006. And that threat of mandatory ADK was thrown at Hebron taxpayers back in 2006. Well, it didn't happen then, and it hasn't happened yet.
Don't be misled. ADK is NOT mandated in the State of Connecticut. It's been coming for years, but so has the threat of another severe hurricane that would rival that of 1938 and destroy much of the state.
Six years later... 268 less students later... here we are.. facing yet another proposed increase in the BOE budget. Based on the number of For Sale signs in Hebron, some have been up 3 years, soon there will be more administrators than there are teachers per student. People are fleeing Hebron's high tax rate in droves!
Think about it.
